Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.* is based in Waterbury, Vermont and offers roughly 100 different kinds of coffee to its customers. For several years, the company has been a leader in the effort to establish better social and environmental standards in the coffee growing industry.

Having introduced its first certified organic coffee in 1986, Green Mountain has since created a complete line of certified organically grown coffees. Green Mountain also offers Fair Trade coffee that it sells under its own brand name as well as under the Newman's Own Organics brand. Fair Trade Certification ensures that seek to ensure coffee growers receive a fair price for their crops. As of October 2004, company management estimated about 15% of its sales came from coffee which had been "double-certified" as both organic and Free Trade coffee.

In 2005, Business Ethics magazine ranked Green Mountain 2nd overall on its list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens," and the Society of Human Resource Management rated the Company as one of the "Best Medium-Sized Companies To Work For in America."

The company's internal environmental initiatives include energy efficiency projects, supporting wind energy development, composting, recycling, buying recycled content, offering oxygen-whitened filters, and providing environmental awards to employees.
