Food and Agriculture

Green Century believes that the industrialized agriculture and food system has a monumental impact on the environment, effecting water use, climate change, habitat change and toxic emissions.

Green Century promotes policies that promote sustainable farming practices to protect our land and water and provide healthy food for our families.

  • Lead Issue:  Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)

Green Century advocates that companies label genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) or keep them out of our food entirely. We are asking Monsanto*, a major producer of GMOs, to disclose the risks associated with their use.

Genetically modified crops have been found to contaminate conventional (non-GMO) and organic farms. This contamination threatens farmers’ livelihoods and imposes a significant financial burden on farmers seeking to produce GMO-free products.

* As of March 31, 2013, the Green Century Balanced Fund and the Green Century Equity Fund did not hold Monsanto. Portfolio composition will change due to ongoing management of the Funds. Please refer to the Green Century Funds website for current information regarding the Funds' portfolio holdings. These holdings are subject to risk as described in the Funds' prospectus.
