Wilderness and Biodiversity

Green Century believes that protecting wilderness and the species that live there is critical for both economic and environmental sustainability.   We believe that development should be done in a way that does not harm the environment, preserves open space, and engages stakeholders and the community.

2012 Issue:

  • Sustainable Seafood ProcurementMarine biologists and ocean experts around the world have reached the conclusion that our oceans and the creatures that inhabit them are in peril, threatened by climate change, habitat destruction, and overfishing.  However, seafood continues to be a popular choice for American consumers, exacerbating the threatened state of many species.   To ensure a healthy ocean for future generations, Green Century is encouraging retailers to adopt sustainable seafood procurement policies and embrace other practices that protect ocean ecosystems.
